MGC is an accredited Golf Mark club, with High Achiever status. We have a Junior Academy which runs on weekday evenings and provides juniors of all ages with the basics of golf. From the Academy juniors can progress to Sunday afternoon 9-hole competitions, which are run virtually all year round, weather permitting of course! The Sunday afternoons allow juniors to play on the course, understand the basics of etiquette, begin to learn the rules of golf in a live situation and how to mark a card. Handicaps can start from 54 and soon start to fall! Progression from forward tees back to men's tees is progressed gradually to take into account age and ability.
Once a full handicap of 28 is reached juniors can progress on to main junior competitions in school holidays and with a handicap of 20 or below a junior can enter a main men's competition. Girls can enter Ladies' competitions with a handicap of 36 or less.
We run other coaching sessions outside of the Junior Academy and enter a team in the North Gloucestershire Junior League. The whole junior set up is all geared to active participation and opportunity to progress. We have seen excellent progression in the last few years and now have a growing number of regular junior golfers and several with single figure handicaps. We have a sliding scale of entry fee for junior membership based on age, with an Under-12 subscription being just £43.00, exclusive of EGU and GGU levies.
